Sculptra® Aesthetic is an FDA approved volumizing dermal filler that has the ability to help stimulate collagen. It is created using a bi-product called poly-L-lactic acid. Sculptra® Aesthetic is unique because it can actually work to replace lost collagen in the skin, creating a structure that helps minimize the appearance of wrinkles and folds in the skin. The structure is long-lasting, keeping your skin looking great for about two years.
Candidates for Sculptra® Aesthetic
You may be a candidate if you would like to:
- Fill in hollows under your eyes, your temples, cheeks, jawline and chin.
- Restore fullness and lost volume to your face
- Under eyes
- Jaw line
In order to keep you as comfortable as possible during the treatment process, local anesthesia is used. The Sculptra® Aesthetic filler is injected beneath the skin, under the dermis and subcutis layer. Sculptra® Aesthetic works in the deep dermis, providing a strong foundation to reduce the appearance of folds. The Sculptra® Aesthetic procedure itself doesn’t take very long, averaging around 15-30 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. Depending on the severity of your wrinkles and folds, more injections may be necessary.
The Recovery and Results
Patients who receive Sculptra® Aesthetic typically report very mild to moderate side effects. Side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, itching, and other minor issues—all of which typically clear up in 3-7 days. Dr. Lacombe can provide a quick laser treatment to reduce bruising.
Sculptra® Aesthetic works a little differently than other fillers, working over time to improve your appearance. You should see a gradual improvement in the treatment areas over time resulting in a fuller, natural looking appearance as collagen is stimulated. Typically, Sculptra® Aesthetic is injected in a series of 2 or 3 treatments two months apart. Sculptra® Aesthetic typically lasts up to two years.
