What is breast reduction surgery?
Breast reduction surgery (clinically referred to as reduction mammaplasty) is the removal of breast tissues to achieve a more desirable breast size. Fat, skin, and glandular tissues may be removed in breast reduction, resulting in breasts that are more proportionate to the size and shape of your body. Breast reduction surgery is often performed due to health issues associated with large breasts, and can effectively alleviate these issues.
Procedure:
A breast reduction surgery takes around 2-5 hours and is performed as an out-patient procedure under general anesthesia.
Candidates:
The reasons for wanting breast reduction surgery are unique for every individual. Extremely large breasts can cause problems to your health including pain and discomfort, as well as emotional problems. Many women experience back, neck or shoulder pain or are limited in their physical activities by their breasts.
Recovery:*
Recovery will typically require at least a week. Your surgeon will advise that you stop all physical activity and heavy lifting for at least one month after your surgery.
