How is breast augmentation surgery performed?

She always prioritizes minimizing scarring and utilizes discreet incision locations, such as the underside of the breast or the armpit.

Following surgery, you can expect some soreness and discomfort for several days which can be alleviated with medication. Dr. Tran will discuss post-operative mediation options with you prior to surgery. Bruising, swelling, and temporary nipple sensations or numbness are common but subside within the following weeks. While most patients resume regular activities within 5-7 days, strenuous exercise and breast stimulation should be avoided for 3-4 weeks to promote optimal healing.

Breast implants

Implants are one of the most common choices for breast augmentation surgery. They come in various shapes, sizes, and materials to achieve different results. When it comes to breast implants, one of the most common questions asked is saline or silicone?

Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water whereas silicone implants are filled with medical-grade silicone gel. Each type has pros and cons. Dr. Tran offers both saline and silicone implants and will work with you to select the option that best complements your body and desired outcome.

Traditional saline implants: Saline breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. They provide a uniform shape, firmness and feel, and are FDA-approved for augmentation in patients 18 years or older.
“Ideal” saline implants: Structured saline breast implants, aka the “Ideal” implant, is composed of a complex multi-shell structure with 2 separate saline-filled chambers. As a result, it has a very natural feel and is not prone to folding or wrinkling like traditional saline implants. They are FDA-approved for augmentation in patients 18 years or older.
Traditional silicone implants: Traditional silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel which feels more like natural breast tissue than saline implants. They are FDA-approved for augmentation in patients 22 years or older.
“Gummy bear” silicone implants: Form-stable breast implants, aka “Gummy bear” implants, are like traditional silicone implants, but the gel is thicker. As a result, the implant is firmer. Shaped gummy bear breast implants have more projection at the bottom and are tapered towards the top. They are FDA-approved for augmentation in patients 22 years or older.

What results can I expect?

Results after breast augmentation can range from natural and subtle to dramatic and very perky. Both saline and silicone implants come in various projections which determine the shape and fullness of your new breasts. Fat grafting results can vary slightly based on your unique anatomy as some transferred fat cells may not survive.
