This highly specific light wavelength is selectively absorbed by hemoglobin, the red pigment in blood vessels, without affecting surrounding tissue.
Port wine stains, rosacea, broken capillaries, and other vascular skin conditions have high concentrations of hemoglobin, which is why the surface of the skin appears red. During treatments, the hemoglobin absorbs the laser energy, causing the superficial blood vessels to gently heat up and gradually break down.
