Eyelid Surgery for Aging or Tired Looking Eyes
Year after year, 100,000 men and women across the United States opt for cosmetic eyelid surgery to improve their appearance. Droopy eyelids and puffy undereye bags make you look older, tired, and, in some instances, can impair your vision. Quite simply, no one wants to look old or tired, and yet so many of us do, even when it’s not how we feel inside. That’s why more and more Americans are turning to eyelid surgery to correct these problems. Drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes can make you look older and more tired than you feel. Many who want to correct these features wish to undergo eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). We are happy to offer eyelid surgery, performed by Dr. Victor Lacombe in Santa Rosa.
Eyelid surgery improves the appearance of the area directly surrounding the eyes by reducing excess skin and minimizing puffiness. As a result, this specific facial plastic surgery procedure helps patients look more youthful and feel more confident in their appearance.
So what is eyelid surgery?
Eyelid surgery (AKA blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids to redefine the shape of the eye. The result is tighter, lifted eyelids which create a more refreshed, youthful appearance. While this procedure cannot alter dark circles or crow’s feet, it can address other signs of aging including drooping upper eyelids or puffiness under the eyes (eye bags). Typical candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy and 35 or older. But, if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.
The eyelid surgery procedure at Artemedica in Santa Rosa
Eyelid surgery is a relatively simple surgery and usually only takes 1 or 2 hours to complete. During the procedure, Dr. Lacombe will make small hairline incisions in the skinfold of the upper and lower eyelids which upon healing will be practically invisible. Any excess skin is removed and excessive fatty deposits are repositioned to increase fullness in hollow areas around the eyes.
No two eyelid procedures are the same. Artemedica’s Dr. Lacombe tailors each surgery to meet each patient’s unique goals. Whether you’re looking to correct drooping eyelids or remove puffy eyebags, Dr. Lacombe will discuss your options with you to determine which technique best meets your needs. No matter what you’re looking to accomplish with surgery, Dr. Lacombe will work with you to make sure you are happy with your results.
There are a few medical conditions that increase risks associated with this facial plastic surgery. These include thyroid conditions (like hypothyroidism and Graves’ disease), dry eyes or lack of sufficient tears, detached retina, glaucoma, high blood pressure and other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Be sure to inform Dr. Lacombe about any preexisting conditions during your surgical consultation.
Recovering from your surgical procedure
While individual results may vary, after your eyelid surgery, you should be able to read or watch television soon after the procedure dependent on swelling and/or inflammation. Of course, we always insist our patients take it easy for at least 2-3 weeks following surgery. Most patients feel ready to go back to work in about a week. Again though, we recommend you avoid strenuous activity for the next few weeks. You will not be able to wear contact lenses so we ask that you rely on your prescription glasses during recovery.
Customizing your cosmetic surgery
Your surgeon can perform a brow lift alone or in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures. Complementary procedures include:
Sometimes, patients who come in for a brow lift consultation discover that upper eyelid surgery would better meet their surgical goals. Additionally, some patients choose to maintain or complement their cosmetic surgery with non-surgical injectable fillers like BOTOX® Cosmetic. Dr. Lacombe is more than happy to put together a unique surgical plan that is sure to achieve your goals and reclaim your youth.
